Addison Russell’s Amazing, Incredible Defensive Play

Watch Addison Russell’s amazing, incredible defensive play

Addison Russell turned in one of the best defensive plays Monday night you will ever see a shortstop make. Russell robbed Wil Myers of a hit and saved a run with a diving stop in the eighth inning of the Cubs 5-1 win over the Padres.

For all of the plays Addison Russell has made in the big leagues, this one might have been his best. Wil Myers smoked the 3-1 pitch from Travis Wood, the 110 mph exit velocity equaled the hardest hit ball from a Padres batter this season. When the ball left the bat, it looked like the Padres would cut into the Cubs 5-1 lead. Russell came out of nowhere, fielded the ball cleanly and threw out Myers easily. It was not a close play at first base.

Pat Hughes called Russell’s play one of the best he’s ever seen.
