Cubs activate OF/INF Chris Coghlan from 15-Day DL – Option INF Tommy La Stella to Triple-A Iowa
The Cubs made two roster moves Friday. The Cubs activated OF/INF Chris Coghlan from the 15-day disabled list and optioned INF Tommy La Stella to Triple-A Iowa.
Chris Coghlan is with the Cubs and leading off Friday’s game against Mariners.
With the two roster moves, the Cubs 25-man roster consists of 13 pitchers (five starters, eight relievers) and 12 position players. The Cubs 40-man roster remains unchanged and stands at 40 players.
Tommy La Stella has three minor league options and it’s highly unlikely he will be in the minors long enough to use an option this season. La Stella can be recalled in 10 days, unless he is replacing an injured player.
La Stella is batting .295/.388/.457 in 51 games for the Cubs this season with nine doubles, a triple and two home runs.
Chris Coghlan was placed on the 15-day DL on July 3 with a right rib cage strain. Coghlan was sent on a rehab assignment last week (July 22) to Double-A Tennessee.
In five games with the Smokies, Coghlan batted .500/.619/.750 with a 1.369 OPS. Coghlan was 8-for-16 with four doubles and five walks.
Since being reacquired from the A’s, Coghlan is 7-for-36 in 19 games with two doubles and a triple (.194/.356/.306) for a .661 OPS.
Chris Coghlan is out of minor league options and the Cubs did not want to lose him.
