Dexter Fowler and Jorge Soler play rehab games Wednesday with Triple-A Iowa – Fowler plans to be back with the Cubs by Friday for Opener at Miller Park
Dexter Fowler and Jorge Soler started their rehab assignments Wednesday with Triple-A Iowa. Fowler played in both games of Iowa’s doubleheader with Salt Lake. Soler played in the first game of the twin bill.
Fowler batted leadoff in both games. In game one, a 5-0 loss to Salt Lake, Fowler played center field and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts against Tyler Skaggs.
Jorge Soler did not put a ball in play in his three at-bats. Soler hit second in game one, played left field and went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts.
Iowa beat Salt Lake in the nightcap 6-3. And Fowler was on base twice, scoring two runs.
Fowler went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and two runs scored in three plate appearances. Fowler was Iowa’s DH in game two. Fowler doubled to left center in the first and scored on a single from Mark Zagunis. Fowler flied out to deep left center to end the second inning.
Fowler walked in the fifth and scored on a Mark Zagunis double. Kristopher Negron batted for Fowler when his spot came back around in the sixth inning.
The Des Moines Register spoke to Dexter Fowler and he said the plan was for him to play both games of Wednesday’s doubleheader. Fowler is supposed to take Thursday off and he plans to be with the Cubs on Friday for the opener of the three-game series at Miller Park.
Jorge Soler told the Des Moines Register that he thinks he only needs four-five games in the minors. Multiple reports indicated the Cubs believe Soler will need weeks and not days with Iowa before he’s ready to return to the active roster.
The Cubs did not say Wednesday what the plan was for Fowler. Joe Maddon said earlier this week that he expected Dexter Fowler back by the end of the week, which would be Friday in Milwaukee.
