Cubs recall INF Munenori Kawasaki from Triple-A Iowa, Option 3B/1B Jeimer Candelario to Triple-A Iowa

The Cubs made two roster moves Saturday afternoon. The Cubs recalled infielder Munenori Kawasaki from Triple-A Iowa and optioned 3B/1B Jeimer Candelario to Triple-A Iowa.

With the two roster moves, the Cubs active roster stands at 13 pitchers (five starters, eight relievers) and 12 position players. The Cubs’ 40-man roster does not change and stands at 39 players.

Munenori Kawasaki has played in 61 games for the Iowa Cubs, hitting .271/.348/.325 with nine doubles and a triple for a .673 OPS. Kawasaki appeared in two games for the Cubs earlier this season and was 1-for-2 in two plate appearances.

Jeimer Candelario played in five games for the Cubs after making his Major League debut last Sunday against the Mets in Queens. Candelario was 1-for-11 with two walks and five strikeouts (.091/.286/.091) in 14 plate appearances.

Candelario was named to the World Team for the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. The Cubs said he will not participate in the game on Sunday. Candelario will report to Triple-A Iowa after the All-Star break on Thursday.

Munenori Kawasaki is in Pittsburgh and will be available for Saturday’s game.

Cubs batting order vs. RHP Chad Kuhl: Tommy La Stella 2B, Kris Bryant LF, Anthony Rizzo 1B, Ben Zobrist RF, Willson Contreras C, Jason Heyward CF, Addison Russell SS, Javier Baez 3B, Jon Lester P
