Updated 11:05am CDT – According to Jon Heyman, the Cubs and Yankees have agreed to a deal for LHP Aroldis Chapman for SS Gleyber Torres, RHP Adam Warren, OF Billy McKinney and one other prospect.
Updated 11:24am CDT – Jayson Stark reported the Cubs have been told Hal Steinbrenner has signed off on trading Chapman to the Cubs.
Updated 11:27am CDT – According to Patrick Mooney, the fourth player in the deal going from the Cubs to the Yankees is OF Rashad Crawford.
Updated 12:19pm CDT – ESPN Chicago reported that Aroldis Chapman is flying to Chicago today. Jesse Rogers is not sure if Chapman will be available for the game tonight. The Cubs have not confirmed or denied the deal. The Sun-Times confirmed the deal for Chapman is 4-for-1 as has been reported.
Updated 12:23pm CDT – Marly Rivera spoke with Chapman. He is in Houston and is flying to Chicago this afternoon.
The Cubs appear to be inching closer to acquiring Aroldis Chapman from the Yankees.
Multiple reports Sunday night had the Cubs on the verge of acquiring Chapman from the Yankees for a package of players with Gleyber Torres as the centerpiece of the haul back to the Bronx.
According to Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs and Yankees are working through the final stages of the deal. Rosenthal reported it will not be a 2-for-1 deal for Chapman. The Yankees are likely getting four players for Chapman according to Joel Sherman. And all reports of the Cubs discussing an extension with the Cubs have been shot down by reliable sources.
Adam Warren is in the conversations with the Yankees according to Ken Rosenthal and Joel Sherman. The Cubs would include him and two other players, along with Torres for Chapman.
Jorge Soler and Jeimer Candelario are not in the deal according to Joel Sherman.
Joel Sherman reported Theo Epstein made it clear to the Yankees that Kyle Schwarber would not be discussed, not even in a deal for Andrew Miller. Schwarber was never in play in the discussions with the Yankees.
