Cubs offer for Aroldis Chapman reportedly incudes top prospect Gleyber Torres
The Cubs could be on the verge of acquiring LHP Aroldis Chapman from the New York Yankees. Cubs’ top prospect Gleyber Torres was scratched from Sunday night’s lineup. Torres is still with High-A Myrtle Beach and in the dugout.
Gleyber Torres is one of the players the Cubs have on the table for Aroldis Chapman.
Multiple outlets (Jon Heyman, Buster Olney) are reporting Torres is one of the prospects that will go to the Yankees in a package for Chapman.

Updated 6:55pm CDT – According to Jon Heyman, the Cubs and Yankees are working on a deal for Aroldis Chapman that would send Gleyber Torres and more to the Yankees. The two teams are trying to finalize the deal.
Updated 7:05pm CDT – Keith Law thinks the Cubs would be giving up too much in Gleyber Torres for a two-month rental in Aroldis Chapman.
Updated 7:15pm CDT – Ken Rosenthal has confirmed that Gleyber Torres has been discussed as the centerpiece of a deal for Aroldis Chapman.
Updated 8:03pm CDT – Jeff Passan reported Aroldis Chapman to the Cubs is “looking likelier, multiple pieces including Gleyber Torres are agreed upon.” Deal is not completed yet.
Updated 8:08pm CDT – According to Jon Heyman, the Cubs have not talked to Aroldis Chapman’s camp about a contract extension. This would be a rental and he would become a free agent at the end of the season.
Updated 8:12pm CDT – According to the Score’s Julie DiCaro, Jorge Soler is part of the package being discussed in the deal for Aroldis Chapman. Players from the Yankees that could also be in the talks include Carlos Beltran, Nathan Eovaldi and Michael Pineda.
Updated 8:22pm CDT – Sahadev Sharma reported the names have been agreed upon, the deal is not finalized. Gleyber Torres would be the biggest name but “more sent to Yankees.” The Cubs would only receive Chapman.
