Cubs make it official. Cubs acquired LHP Mike Montgomery and RHP Jordan Pries from the Mariners for 1B Dan Vogelbach and RHP Paul Blackburn

Jon Paul Morosi reported the Cubs and Mariners are finalizing a trade that may include more players than LHP Mike Montgomery and Dan Vogelbach. Morosi has been told more players are involved in the deal.
Updated 4:53pm CDT – According to Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs are also getting a Triple-A pitcher from the Mariners and will likely include another player in the deal.
Updated 4:54pm CDT – RHP Paul Blackburn is also in the deal going to the Mariners according to Ken Rosenthal.
Updated 5:05pm CDT – Dan Vogelbach has been scratched from the lineup at Principal Park. Matt Murton has replaced Vogelbach as the I-Cubs designated hitter in Game 1 of the doubleheader . According to Ken Rosenthal, the Cubs are receiving another pitcher in the deal.
Updated 5:35pm CDT – According to Bob Nightengale, the Cubs are getting Triple-A RHP Jordan Pries from the Mariners. Pries is 2-1 in seven games, three starts, with Triple-A Tacoma this season with a 3.65 ERA and 1.25 WHIP.
According to multiple reports, the Cubs have acquired LHP Mike Montgomery from the Mariners for 1B/DH Dan Vogelbach.
The Cubs have not confirmed the reports that a deal has been reached. Joe Maddon said during his post-game press conference that Mike Montgomery is “a nice fellow.”
Mike Montgomery was a first round pick of the Royals of the 2008. Montgomery is 3-4 with a 2.34 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 3.20 FIP in 32 games, two starts, for the Mariners this season. Montgomery has allowed 18 runs, 16 earned, on 49 hits with 18 walks and 54 strikeouts in 61 2/3 innings.
Montgomery has held left-handers for a .164/.269/.254 line with a .523 OPS this season, just four extra basehits (three doubles, one home run). Right-handers have hit .244/.306/.353 against him this season with a .658 OPS.
Montgomery is not eligible for free agency until after the 2021 season. The Cubs would have five years o control over the 27-year old lefty.
Joe Maddon is familiar with Montgomery from their time together in the Rays organization. Montgomery was involved the Wil Myers–James Shields trade in December 2012 that also landed Jake Odorizzi in Tampa. The Rays traded Montgomery to the Mariners for Erasmo Ramirez in March 2015.
Mike Montgomery’s velocity increased this season from 90.4 to 94.0 as a reliever.
