All-Star Game Selection Show – National League and American League All-Star Rosters
Rosters for Major League Baseball’s 87th Annual All-Star Game will be announced Tuesday during the ‘Esurance All-Star Selection Show’ on ESPN. Coverage begins at 6:00pm CDT. And it could be an historic night for the Chicago Cubs.
The final update on the balloting for the National League All-Stars had four Cubs’ infielders leading their respective positions. Anthony Rizzo was the leading vote getter in the NL and should be the starting at first base for the Senior Circuit.
Kris Bryant, Ben Zobrist and Addison Russell led the voting for the other three starting spots in the infield. If all four infielders start for the National League in the All-Star Game, the Cubs would join the ’63 St. Louis Cardinals as the only two teams to have its entire infield start a Midsummer Classic.
Dexter Fowler was also in position to be in the starting lineup for the National League. Fowler’s hamstring injury could keep him from playing in the game.
And the Cubs’ five position players could be joined in San Diego by three pitchers. Jake Arrieta, Jon Lester and Hector Rondon have been reported as strong possibilities for the NL’s pitching staff.
The pitchers and reserves for both squads, totaling 25 for the NL and 24 for the AL, are determined through a combination of ‘Player Ballot’ choices and selections made by the two All-Star managers … the Royals’ Ned Yost and Terry Collins of the Mets.
Major League Baseball’s 2016 All-Star Game is Tuesday, July 12 at PETCO Park in San Diego.
