Cubs place INF Tommy La Stella on 15-Day DL, Add OF/INF Chris Coghlan to 25-Man Roster
The Cubs announced two roster moves Friday afternoon. As expected, the Cubs placed INF Tommy La Stella on the 15-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain. The Cubs backdated La Stella’s trip to the DL to June 8.
The Cubs added OF/INF Chris Coghlan to 25-man roster. The Cubs reacquired Coghlan from the Oakland A’s on Thursday for INF Arismendy Alcantara.
Chris Coghlan, who will wear uniform No. 8, will be available for the Cubs tonight as the team begins the three-game series in Atlanta.
The Cubs active 25-man roster consists of 13 position players and 12 pitchers. The Cubs’ 40-man roster currently stands at 38 players.
The 30-year-old Chris Coghlan was acquired Thursday from Oakland for infielder Arismendy Alcantara. He rejoins the Cubs after spending the 2014 and 2015 campaigns with the club, batting .265/.346/.447 (219-for-825) with 53 doubles, 11 triples, 25 home runs and a .793 OPS in 273 games with the team. Last season, Coghlan set career marks with 16 homers, 58 walks, 47 extra-base hits and 148 games played as he helped the Cubs to a playoff berth. Coghlan was traded from Chicago to Oakland Feb. 25 for right-handed pitcher Aaron Brooks.
Chris Coghlan this season appeared in 51 games, including 46 starts, with the Athletics, batting .146/.215/.272 (23-for-158) with five doubles, five home runs and a .487 OPS. Coghlan has made just one error in 130 chances in the field (.992), making 16 starts at second base, 15 starts at third base, 11 starts in right field and two starts in left field.
Tommy La Stella, 27, is batting .291/.378/.494 (23-for-79) with eight doubles, two home runs and a .871 OPS in 38 games for the Cubs this season.
