Maddon Starting Contreras, Almora Jr. in Cubs Second of Three with Cardinals

June 21, 2016 2:35 pm By Neil Leave a Comment

The Cubs and Cardinals play game two of three on Tuesday night. Jason Hammel takes on Adam Wainwright and Willson Contreras will be behind the plate.

Maddon062116Joe Maddon posted his lineup for Tuesday’s game. As previously reported, Chris Coghlan is leading off and playing left field. Ben Zobrist is back to the five-hole behind Anthony Rizzo and Willson Contreras is catching, hitting sixth.

With Coghlan in left and Jason Heyward in right field, Kris Bryant starts tonight at third base.

Cubs batting order: Chris Coghlan LF, Jason Heyward RF, Kris Bryant 3B, Anthony Rizzo 1B, Ben Zobrist 2B, Willson Contreras C, Addison Russell SS, Albert Almora Jr. CF, Jason Hammel P

Maddon is starting a balanced lineup, which matches with Adam Wainwright’s splits. The veteran right-hander has turned his season around and has been very, very good for more than a month. Maddon has four right-handers, three left-handers and the switch-hitting Zobrist in his starting eight position players.

Right-handers have a .799 OPS against Adam Wainwright this season and have hit .278/.333/.466 slash line. Left-handers have put together a .679 OPS with a .274/.316/.363 slash line.

Joe Maddon will begin the game with a bench of Javier Baez, Matt Szczur, David Ross and Miguel Montero.
