The Cubs posted the starting lineup for the series finale with the Pirates. Joe Maddon is going with an outfield of Chris Coghlan in left field, Jason Heyward in center and Kris Bryant in right.
Dexter Fowler, as expected, is out of the starting lineup. Fowler left Saturday night’s game with a right hamstring injury. Fowler’s injury is not believed to be series. Results of the MRI he had Sunday have not been released.
Miguel Montero is catching Kyle Hendricks which seems to point to Willson Contreras being behind the plate for John Lackey in the opener on Monday night with the Cardinals.
The Pirates are giving the ball to right-hander Jameson Taillon as Clint Hurdle looks to salvage the last of the three-game series at Wrigley. Taillon makes the third start of his Major League career tonight. While it’s a very small sample size, the numbers pointed to Maddon running out a left-handed heavy lineup.
In two games against the Mets, right-handers hit .077/.200/.077 with a .277 OPS against Taillon while left-handers batted .226/.265/.387 with a .652 OPS.
Cubs batting order: Chris Coghlan LF, Jason Heyward CF, Kris Bryant RF, Anthony Rizzo 1B, Ben Zobrist 2B, Miguel Montero C, Addison Russell SS, Javier Baez 3B, Kyle Hendricks P
Fowler’s availability is unknown at this point. Maddon will begin the game with Matt Szczur, Albert Almora Jr., Willson Contreras and David Ross on his bench.
