The Cubs promoted 2B/OF Ian Happ to Double-A Tennessee from High-A Myrtle Beach on Thursday. Happ made his Double-A debut Thursday pinch hitting for RHP David Berg and walked in his only plate appearance. Happ was in the starting lineup Friday for the first time and helped the Smokies beat the Blue Wahoos 4-1.
Ian Happ started at second base and hit third behind Chesny Young. Happ went 2-for-4 and scored a run in the first inning on a single from Billy McKinney.
Happ also made a fine play in the field behind Jen-Ho Tseng to end the third inning.
With his two hits and a walk in two games with the Smokies, Ian Happ is 16-for-33 in his last 10 games with four walks and six strikeouts.
Combined between High-A Myrtle Beach and Double-A Tennessee, Ian Happ is batting .299/.413/.475 in 71 games with 16 doubles, three triples and seven home runs for a .888 OPS.
