Cubs 2016 First-Year Player Draft – Day Three

June 11, 2016 11:00 am By Neil Leave a Comment

Cubs 2016 First-Year Player Draft – Day Three

The Cubs selected seven pitchers with the first eight picks of the 2016 MLB First-Year Player Draft and it should be more of the same type of selections today.

The Cubs were focused on adding pitching to the organization before the draft started. Jason McLeod and his staff stuck to the plan and drafted seven intriguing pitchers with big arms and upside.

It will be interesting to see if the Cubs take a high school player today and try to buy him out of his college commitment.

Rounds 11-40 take place on Day Three of the 2016 MLB Draft that begins at 11:00am CDT and concludes late in the afternoon.

The Cubs signing bonus pool for the first 10 rounds of this year’s draft is $2,245,100 million, the assigned slot values are listed below. Jason McLeod has the lowest draft bonus pool in all of baseball to add talent with to the Cubs system. If the Cubs sign a player in rounds 11-40 for more than $100,000, the excess is counted against the team’s bonus pool. If the Cubs draft a player in the first 10 rounds they are unable sign, the assigned slot value is removed from their bonus pool allotment.
