Ben Zobrist celebrates his 35th birthday on Thursday. Zobrist has been quite the addition to the Cubs offense while providing steady defense at second base and right field.
It seems like every time you look up Zobrist has been on base. And that’s pretty much been the case, especially over the last month. Zobrist is not only hitting over .400 in his last 23 games, he’s getting on base at a 50% clip.
Ben Zobrist (2.2 WAR) and Dexter Fowler (2.5 WAR) have been constants for Joe Maddon over the first 45 games of the season.
Zobrist had three more hits Wednesday in five trips to the plate. Two of the three hits came in the six-run second inning, and the second was a seeing-eye single through the right side that drove in two runs.

Ben Zobrist has reached base safely with either a hit or a walk in each of the last 31 games he’s started.
Zobrist has played his way into a candidate for National League Player of the Month for May. Zobrist has been outstanding at the plate, and equally as effective from the left and right side.
