Willson Contreras is Not Slowing Down Offensively

May 7, 2016 10:30 am By Neil 1 Comment

Willson Contreras had another good game at the plate Friday night in the I-Cubs 13-7 victory in Omaha. Not only did Contreras reach base two more time, one of his two hits sailed over the wall in left central.

Contreras went 2-for-5 with a two run homer batting fourth in Marty Pevey’s lineup.

Willson Contreras has played 22 games this season and he’s reached base either with a hit or a walk in 21 of them. His on-base streak was snapped on April 29.

In a game earlier in the week (May 4), Contreras actually did not have an official at-bat but reached base five times. Contreras worked four walks, was hit by a pitch and scored two runs.

Contreras was 21-for-61 in April with four doubles. In his first 16 games of the season, he put together a .344/.423/.410 line with a .832 OPS. He’s actually gotten better as the weather has improved.

Over his last six games, Contreras is 7-for-19 with two doubles and two home runs for a .368/.520/.789 line with a 1.309 OPS. Contreras has five walks and has been hit by a pitch (1) as many times as he’s struck out (1).

For the season, Willson Contreras is batting .350/.448/.500 with six doubles and two home runs for a .948 OPS. Contreras has 13 walks in 80 at-bats and almost as many extra basehits (8) as strikeouts (9) in 22 games.
