Jason Heyward, Javier Baez return to Cubs Lineup
Joe Maddon decided to give Addison Russell a day off. Javier Baez is starting at shortstop with Tommy La Stella at third and Kris Bryant in left field.
The Cubs have the tough task of facing Max Scherzer this afternoon. Scherzer may be off to a slow start (3-1, 3.55 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 3.76 FIP in six starts) but he’s still one of the best pitchers in the National League. Scherzer is 2-1 in four road starts this season with a 2.77 ERA and 0.96 WHIP.
Joe Maddon is going with a balanced lineup, slightly leaning to the left-side. Left-handers have hit .289/.386/.461 with a .847 OPS against Scherzer this season. Right-handers have managed a .175/.188/.333 slash line with a .521 OPS.
