Cubs expected to attend Tim Lincecum’s showcase this Friday in Scottsdale
According to reports from Mark Gonzales and Patrick Mooney, the Cubs will attend Tim Lincecum’s showcase Friday at Scottsdale Stadium. The Cubs will be one of at least 20 teams on hand to watch Lincecum throw.
Tim Lincecum is coming off arthroscopic hip surgery, is a free agent and looking to sign with the team. Several teams including the Giants, Padres, Orioles, Astros, Rangers, Angels and A’s are believed to have interest in Lincecum. The Cubs appear to be doing their due diligence on the two-time NL Cy Young Award winner.
According to Jon Heyman, Lincecum is looking for a starting job. Heyman added the White Sox, Red Sox, Dodgers, Nationals, Orioles, Marlins and Cubs to the long list of teams expected to attend. Based on the reports, it would be easier to list the teams not expected at Scottsdale Stadium on Friday to watch him pitch.
FOX Sports reported Lincecum is “already throwing 91 mph” and spent the winter preparing for this showcase.
Lincecum started 15 games for the Giants last season before ongoing problems with a degenerative hip cut his year short. Lincecum last appeared in a game on June 27. Lincecum was 7-4 in 15 starts with a 4.13 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 4.29 FIP.
Tim Lincecum won the National League Cy Young Award in back-to-back seasons (2008-09) and helped the Giants win three World Series Championships. Lincecum is interested in returning to the Giants and Bruce Bochy recently said the Giants have mutual interest in a reunion.
The Cubs selected Lincecum in the 48th round of the 2003 draft. Lincecum went to the University of Washington and the Giants took him with the 10th overall pick in the 2006 draft.
