Cubs call-up RHP Carl Edwards Jr. from Triple-A Iowa as 26th man for doubleheader
The Cubs and Padres have a day-night doubleheader Wednesday. Kyle Hendricks starts game one (12:05pm CDT) and John Lackey gets the ball in game two (7:05pm CDT), weather permitting.
The Cubs called up Carl Edwards Jr. to be the 26th man on the active roster for the day.
With the heavy use of the bullpen and lack of position-player options on the 40-man roster, the Cubs added a reliever to the active roster for Wednesday’s doubleheader.
Carl Edwards Jr. has appeared in 11 games, all in relief, for the I-Cubs this season. Edwards Jr. does not have a record and has finished two games. In 11 1/3 innings, Edwards Jr. has allowed three runs, all earned, on eight hits with seven walks and 18 strikeouts (2.38 ERA, 1.32 WHIP).
