The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, High-A affiliate of the Chicago Cubs, released its initial roster for the 2016 season Monday and it features eight of the top prospects in the system, including SS Gleyber Torres, 2B/OF Ian Happ, OF Jeffrey Baez, RHP David Berg, RHP Trevor Clifton and RHP Jake Stinnett.
The Pelicans’ first roster consists of 14 pitchers, three catchers, six infielders and five outfielders.
Buddy Bailey shifts to the Pelicans this season for his 28th year as a minor league manager.
The Pelicans roster features Gleyber Torres and Ian Happ and Myrtle Beach’s double play combo figures to garner their fair share of headlines this season.
Trevor Clifton, Jake Stinnett and Jonathan Martinez are expected to be in the Pelicans Opening Day rotation.
High-A Myrtle Beach begins the defense of its Carolina League Championship on Thursday, April 7 against the Frederick Keys (Baltimore Orioles) at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.
The Pelicans first roster of the season includes 28 players. The active roster will have to be trimmed by three players by Thursday.
