Ian Happ named Carolina League Player of the Week, included in MLB Pipeline weekly prospect team
Ian Happ had a very good week at the plate for High-A Myrtle Beach and his offense was recognized by both the Carolina League and MLB Pipeline.
Happ, 21, was named the Carolina Player of the Week after hitting .429/.600/.905 with three home runs, nine walks, seven runs scored and eight RBI. Since beginning the season 0-for-8 with four strikeouts in two games, Happ is batting .357/.486/.625 with four doubles, a triple, three home runs, 14 walks and 14 strikeouts in 16 games.
Prior to Monday’s games, Happ ranked third in the Carolina League in walks (15), tied for third in RBI (15), fourth in on-base percentage (.450), fifth in slugging percentage (.547) and 10th in batting average (.313).
MLB Pipeline included Ian Happ on its Prospect Team of the Week. Happ is dialed in at the plate according to Jonathan Mayo while learning how to play second base. Happ joins a star-studded prospect team.

In 18 games, Happ is hitting .313/.450/.547 with four doubles, a triple and three home runs for a .997 OPS. Happ has gone yard two times from the left side and once from the right. Happ has 15 walks with 18 strikeouts in 64 plate appearances.
Ian Happ is the first Pelicans’ player to receive a weekly honor this season.
