The Bryzzo Souvenir Company had its best series of the young season as the two sluggers hit a combined six home runs in the four game set in Cincinnati.
Kris Bryant started the series at the Great American Launching Pad with a two-run shot to the upper deck in the first inning of Thursday’s game.
Anthony Rizzo launched his first dinger of the series in the sixth inning of Thursday’s game, a three-run homer, as Jake Arrieta was dealing on the mound.
Kris Bryant went yard again the following inning. Bryant crushed a 2-1 pitch from Drew Hayes with the bases loaded. The ball sailed over the wall in center and Bryant’s third career Grand Slam gave the Cubs a 13-0 lead as Jake Arrieta marched toward history.
Turn the page to Friday and Anthony Rizzo gave Jon Lester a little breathing room with a solo homer to right central leading off the fourth inning.
After a non-profitable day for the young memorabilia company, Anthony Rizzo got back in the swing of things on Sunday with not one, but two properly struck balls in the series finale.
Rizzo smacked a two-run homer to the stands in right central in the first inning with Jason Heyward on second base.
And Rizzo capped the series with a booming two-run homer over the center field wall in the third inning. Sunday was the 10th time in Rizzo’s career he hit more than one longball in the same game.
Kris Bryant was 8-for-19 with two doubles, two home runs and two walks with eight RBI in the four-game series and Anthony Rizzo went 4-for-16 with four home runs and four walks with eight RBI.
Bryant and Rizzo were a combined 12-for-35 with two doubles, six home runs and six walks with 16 RBI in the four game series against the Reds.
On the season, Bryant is hitting .278/.345/.494 with five doubles and four home runs for a .838 OPS after 19 games. Rizzo is batting .203/.360/.580 with no doubles, a triple and eight home runs for a .940 OPS. Rizzo has more walks (14) than strikeouts (12) after 19 games, 86 plate appearances.
Remember, the Bryzzo Souvenir Company’s slogan, “We put the ding in dingers.”
