Kyle Hendricks (0-0, 1.00, 0.67) vs. John Danks (1-2, 12.10, 1.86)
The Cubs make the trip to Glendale to take on the White Sox and will be on the outside looking in at the incredible mess at Camelback Ranch. If the Cubs play today, Kyle Hendricks will make his third Cactus League start and four appearance of the spring.
The Cubs have three games on the spring schedule before the only day off on the Cactus League schedule Monday. After today’s game in Glendale, the Cubs take on the Indians in Goodyear on Saturday night with Pierce Johnson making the start. Jon Lester faces the Royals at Sloan Park on Sunday afternoon in what will be Pat Hughes’ first game of the spring.
Comcast SportsNet has the broadcast of today’s game with White Sox announcers Jason Benetti and Steve Stone.
Len Kasper and Mick Gillispie have the call on the radio side on Cubs.com
Hopefully Kenny Williams will not have an issue with the amount of playing time the Cubs’ kids get at his team’s Spring Training facility this afternoon.
Today all starts with Kyle Hendricks …
Kyle Hendricks is coming off an excellent four-inning outing against the Athletics in his third appearance in the Cactus League. In what was his second start, Hendricks tossed four innings of shutout ball and allowed just one hit and a walk. Hendricks received help from his defense and struck out five batters.
In three games, two starts, in the Cactus League, Hendricks has given up one run on five hits with one walk and 11 strikeouts.
John Danks makes his fourth Cactus League start this afternoon. Danks has been awful this spring over the first three outings. Danks has always liked sticking it to the Cubs and will bring the best he has to the mound today.
After giving up three runs on four hits to the Dodgers on March 3, Danks struggled against the Brewers. Danks allowed two runs on three hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings. The Diamondbacks torched Danks in 4 1/3 innings five days ago. Danks gave up eight runs, all earned, on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
John Danks has been charged with 13 runs on 13 hits with five walks and eight strikeouts in 9 2/3 spring innings.
