Trevor Cahill (0-0, 0.00, 1.00) vs. Brandon Beachy (0-0, 0.00, 1.50)
The Cubs day-night split squad day continues with a trip to Glendale to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Cubs won their second straight spring game earlier today, a 9-2 victory over the White Sox at Sloan Park.
Jason Hammel was outstanding. Anthony Rizzo drove in the first two runs. Dexter Fowler homered. Jeimer Candelario and John Andreoli combined for six hits and reached base seven times.
The Cubs took the exhibition game from the Southsiders and will look for a split squad sweep against the Dodgers under the lights.
Trevor Cahill makes his second spring start tonight. The Cubs were scheduled to get their first look of the year at lefty Alex Wood. The Cubs were linked to Wood last summer before the deadline. The Dodgers acquired Wood from the Braves instead along with Jose Peraza. Wood was on the hill the night Jake Arrieta tossed his no-hitter at Dodger Stadium.
Alex Wood was scratched from Saturday night’s start due to left forearm tightness. Dave Roberts decided to have Brandon Beachy start the exhibition game.
The Dodgers are broadcasting tonight’s game and it can be seen via MLB.TV. Mick Gillispie has the Cubs’ call on Cubs.com.
The first night game of the season all starts with Trevor Cahill …
Trevor Cahill takes the mound for the second time in the Cactus League this spring. Cahill was very efficient during his previous start against the Reds on March 5. Cahill gave up two hits over two scoreless innings but did not walk a batter while striking out three.
Joe Maddon is looking for a repeat performance tonight from the big right hander.
Brandon Beachy makes his second appearance, first start, in the Cactus League. Beachy faced the Indians his last time out on March 7. Beachy gave up one hit but no runs and walked two in two innings. Beachy did not record a strikeout.
