Kyle Hendricks (0-2, 1.89, 0.84) vs. Nick Tropeano (1-0, 6.23, 1.04)
It’s the Cubs last Monday in the Valley and Joe Maddon’s team will spend it in Tempe with the Angels.
The Cubs and Angels are going to see a lot of one another over the next eight days. The two teams have an exhibition game in Anaheim on Sunday before opening the season the next day. The Cubs and Angels will square off four times in the next eight days, and half of these games will count.
There are three Cactus League games remaining on the Cubs’ schedule. Today is the last time the Cubs have to leave the complex in Mesa until the team breaks camp following Wednesday’s game with the Rockies.
Moving pictures of today’s game are available on MLB Network and MLB.TV. The Angels have the call on the TV side while Len Kasper and Mick Gillispie have the ‘radio call’ on Cubs.com.
Today all starts with Kyle Hendricks …
Kyle Hendricks makes his sixth appearance, fifth start, in the Cactus League. Hendricks has put together a very good spring.
Hendricks is coming off a loss to the Rangers. Hendricks gave up two runs on seven hits with a walk and five strikeouts in five innings. The third time through the lineup put up two quick runs after Hendricks recorded two outs in the inning. Hendricks has completed five innings in each of his last two starts and should be extended to six innings today.
In five games, four starts, Hendricks has allowed four runs on 14 hits with two walks and 19 strikeouts in 19 innings.
Nick Tropeano makes his fourth Cactus League start this afternoon. Tropeano gave up three runs on four hits with a pair of strikeouts in four innings to the Indians on March 16.
In three Cactus League appearances this spring, Tropeano has allowed six runs, all earned, on eight hits with a walk and four strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings.
