Cubs Top Rangers in Annual Futures Game

Prospects from the Cubs and Rangers organizations squared off Wednesday in Surprise for the second annual Futures Game. And the Cubs came out on top by a final of 10-9.

Happ012616Ian Happ and Victor Caratini homered for the Cubs. Happ led off the fourth with a homer that gave the Cubs a 6-3 lead at the time. Willson Contreras doubled in a run in the third inning. Dan Vogelbach singled in two runs. Albert Almora Jr. and Mark Zagunis both drove in runs.

The Cubs ran out a starting lineup of Jacob Hannemann (LF), Albert Almora Jr. (CF), Jeimer Candelario (3B), Dan Vogelbach (1B), Willson Contreras (C), Billy McKinney (DH), Gleyber Torres (SS), Ian Happ (2B) and Mark Zagunis (RF). Each pitcher was scheduled for one inning. Carl Edwards Jr. started the game and completed a 1-2-3 first inning with a strikeout.

Willson Contreras had two hits in the game that included the RBI double in the third. Dan Vogelbach and Mark Zagunis also collected two hits and drove in runs.
