Rays reportedly traded LHP Jake McGee and RHP German Marquez to the Rockies for OF Corey Dickerson and minor league 3B Kevin Padlo.
According to a report from Joel Sherman, the Rays have traded LHP Jake McGee to the Colorado Rockies for a package of players including OF Corey Dickerson.
Ken Rosenthal reported the Rays and Rockies were on the verge of a trade that included Corey Dickerson. Sherman indicated it is McGee for Dickerson and prospects.
According to Ken Rosenthal, the final deal is Jake McGee and a minor league pitcher to the Rockies for Corey Dickerson and a minor league pitcher.
Jake McGee has been one of the pitchers the Cubs targeted in their discussions with the Rays. Bruce Levine reported last weekend that the Cubs viewed McGee as their closer of the future. McGee has two years of club control and will make $4.8 million during the upcoming season after avoiding arbitration with the Rays. McGee is eligible for free agency after the 2017 season.
McGee was 1-2 with a 2.41 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 2.33 FIP in 39 games for the Rays last season.
Corey Dickerson has four years of club control left before he becomes a free agent. Dickerson fits within the type of players the Rays acquire in trades for pitching.
As Joel Sherman pointed out, as long as Jake McGee stays healthy he will be traded prior to the Aug. 1 non-waiver deadline this summer.
