Nick Greenwood was selected by the Padres in the 14th round of the 2009 draft. Greenwood was dealt to the Cardinals as part of the three-team trade with the Indians in July 2010 that landed RHP Jake Westbrook with the Cardinals, OF Ryan Ludwick with the Padres and RHP Corey Kluber with the Indians.
Greenwood has appeared in 20 games with one start at the Major League level over two seasons with the Cardinals. Greenwood is 2-2 with a 5.25 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. In 36 innings, Greenwood allowed 21 runs, all earned, on 38 hits with five walks and 17 strikeouts. Greenwood pitched in one game for the Cardinals last season and did not record an out. Greenwood gave up two runs on two hits (a home run by Andrew McCutchen) in a game started by John Lackey.
The 28-year old southpaw was 13-6 in 32 games, 22 starts, for Triple-A Memphis last season with a 6.14 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. Greenwood surrendered 88 runs, 83 earned, on 166 hits with 25 walks and 60 strikeouts in 129 innings.
