The Cubs released the list of non-roster invitees to Major League Spring Training. Joe Maddon will start with a 58-man Spring Training roster when pitchers and catchers report in three weeks.
The Cubs have invited 18 non-roster players to Major League Spring Training, which begins Friday, Feb. 19 when pitchers and catchers are invited to report in advance of their first formal workout on Saturday, Feb. 20 at the club’s Under Armour Performance Center in Mesa.
Position players are invited to report to camp Tuesday, Feb. 23 with the team’s first full squad workout Wednesday, Feb. 24.
The following 10 pitchers have been invited to Major League camp: RHP Stephen Fife, RHP Brandon Gomes, RHP Jean Machi, RHP Felix Pena, RHP Jonathan Pettibone, RHP Armando Rivero, RHP Drew Rucinski and RHP Duane Underwood Jr. as well as LHP Luis Cruz and LHP Jack Leathersich.
Three infielders have been invited to Major League camp: Jesus Guzman, Munenori Kawasaki and Kristopher Negron.
Three outfielders have been invited to big league camp: Albert Almora Jr., John Andreoli and Juan Perez.
Two catchers have been invited to big league camp: Taylor Davis and Tim Federowicz
It is good to see the Cubs extend non-roster invitations to Albert Almora Jr., Duane Underwood Jr., Taylor Davis, John Andreoli and Armando Rivero.
The Cubs have a full 40-man roster, plus the 18 players the team has invited to camp, runs the total to 58 on the Cubs’ first Spring Training roster of 2016. The Cubs can still sign players to minor league contracts with non-roster invitations to Spring Training at any point.
