According to multiple reports, Zack Greinke is expected to sign with either the Dodgers or the Giants. And both teams are pushing him to make a decision. Ken Rosenthal reported Greinke could agree to terms on a new contract as soon as Tuesday night.
Zack Greinke is looking to sign a five- or six-year contract with an AAV higher than the $31 million average annual value of David Price’s contract.
The Dodgers are viewed as the favorite to land Greinke. Magic Johnson told the Dodgers’ media Tuesday that re-signing Greinke is the team’s top priority.
Jerry Crasnick reported Zack Greinke could be looking at a $31.5-32 million AAV in order to top David Price.
According to Bob Nightengale, the Red Sox “needed a decision by today by David Price” so Boston “did not lose out on Greinke.” The Red Sox back-up plan if Price signed elsewhere was Zack Greinke. Now it appears Greinke is on the clock and two NL West teams are waiting for him to decide which lefty he will follow in a rotation, Clayton Kershaw or Madison Bumgarner.
Update 10:55pm CST – Jim Bowden is expecting Greinke to sign a six-year contract with an AAV of $32 million with either the Dodgers or Giants. One of Bowden’s sources indicated Greinke will decide in the next 48 hours.
