The Cubs wrapped up what was already a good seven-day stretch by agreeing to terms Friday with Jason Heyward on an eight-year, $184 million contract. Heyward was the fourth free agent to sign with Cubs in a week, joining RHP John Lackey, RHP Trevor Cahill and INF/OF Ben Zobrist.
The front office is still looking for pitching and reportedly a centerfielder. The Cubs were connected to the Padres, Indians and Rays again for pitching and the Braves for a centerfielder.
The Cubs signed two pitchers to minor league deals that include Spring Training invites. The Orioles claimed a lefty reliever from the Cubs and designated a former top prospect for assignment to create a spot on the 40-man roster.

The front office landed a player they had been trying to acquire for at least a year. Ben Zobrist was reunited with Joe Maddon after he inked a four-year, $56 million deal.
Zobrist is expected to hit toward the top of Maddon’s lineup and play second base on most days.
