Cubs Sign OF Juan Perez and OF Kelly Dugan to Minor League Contracts

According to the transactions page on MiLB.com, the Cubs signed OF Juan Perez and OF Kelly Dugan to minor league contracts.

Perez121815Juan Perez, 29, has been in the Giants organization since he was selected in the 13th round of the 2008 draft. Perez saw time last season with Triple-A Sacramento, High-A San Jose and the big leagues.

Perez played in 28 games for Bruce Bochy and hit .282/.300/.359 with three doubles in 39 at bats. In 83 games at Triple-A Sacramento, Perez batted .265/.306/.424 with 24 doubles, three triples and seven home runs for a .730 OPS.

The right-handed outfielder has played all three spots in the big leagues. And over three seasons with the Giants, Perez has a .224/.267/.316 line with 15 doubles, two home runs and a .583 OPS.

Kelly Dugan, 25, is a lefty hitting outfielder/first baseman. The Phillies selected Dugan in the second round of the 2009 draft. Dugan has not played in the majors yet and saw time at the Triple-A level for the first time last season.

PrintDugan batted .221/.295/.298 in 36 games for Triple-A Lehigh Valley with four doubles and two home runs. Dugan played 83 games over three levels of the Phillies’ system and hit .274/.349/.358 with 15 doubles, a triple and three home runs for a .707 OPS.

Dugan has played mostly right field in his pro career. Dugan has experience in all three outfield spots and played first base for 30 games in 2011-12.

Players Signed to Minor League Contracts

The following players have signed minor league contract with the Cubs this off-season. The full list of players that will be non-roster invitees to Spring Training should be released after the first of the year. Brandon Gomes, Stephen Fife, Jean Machi, Drew Rucinski, Kelly Dugan and Juan Perez are expected to be in big league camp this spring.

The Cubs have announced signing Drew Rucinski and Luis Parra, but have not released a list of the players the team has added this off-season on minor league deals. Additional minor league signings should surface in the coming days.
