Cubs Avoid Arbitration with Clayton Richard, Tender Contracts to Six Arbitration Eligible Players

The Cubs tendered contracts to six of the nine arbitration eligible players, including RHP Jake Arrieta and LHP Travis Wood, avoided arbitration with LHP Rex Brothers and LHP Clayton Richard and non-tendered RHP Ryan Cook and LHP Jack Leathersich. The Cubs tendered contracts for the 2016 season to all but one of the automatic renewal players (0-3 men).

PrintWith the two roster moves, the Cubs 40-man roster officially stands at 36 players.

LHP Rex Brothers avoided arbitration Wednesday and agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.42 million contract.

The Cubs announced Wednesday that LHP Clayton Richard agreed to a one-year contract contract that includes performance bonuses (incentives package) for the 2016 season and avoided arbitration. Terms of Richard’s deal have not been released.

Update 8:39pm CST – Cubs and Clayton Richard agreed to terms on a $2 million contract for the 2016 season to avoid arbitration.

The Cubs tendered contracts to RHP Jake Arrieta, OF Chris Coghlan, RHP Justin Grimm, RHP Hector Rondon, RHP Pedro Strop and LHP Travis Wood.

Cubs Arbitration Eligible Players
  • Jake Arrieta, RHP – 2015 salary – $3.63 million; Projected $10-11 million for 2016
  • Rex Brothers, LHP – Projected $1.2-1.5 million for 2016 (Signed, $1.42 million)
  • Chris Coghlan, OF – 2015 salary – $2.505 million; Projected $3.3-3.8 million for 2016
  • Justin Grimm, RHP – 2015 salary – $532,000; Projected $800,000-1.2 million for 2016
  • Clayton Richard, LHP – Projected $1-1.4 million for 2016 (Signed, $2 million)
  • Hector Rondon, RHP – 2015 salary – $544,000; Projected $3.2-3.9 million for 2016
  • Pedro Strop, RHP – 2015 salary – $2.525 million; Projected $4.3-4.5 million for 2016
  • Travis Wood, LHP – 2015 salary – $5.685 million; Projected $6.2-6.8 million for 2016

The Cubs tendered contracts to the following players (0-3 men, automatic renewals): RHP Andury Acevedo, RHP Dallas Beeler, RHP Carl Edwards Jr., RHP Kyle Hendricks, RHP Pierce Johnson, LHP Eric Jokisch, RHP Yoervis Medina, RHP Spencer Patton, RHP Neil Ramirez and LHP Zac Rosscup

C/OF Kyle Schwarber, C Willson Contreras, INF/OF Arismendy Alcantara, INF Javier Baez, INF/OF Kris Bryant, 3B Jeimer Candelario, INF Tommy La Stella, SS Addison Russell, INF Christian Villanueva, 1B Dan Vogelbach and OF Matt Szczur
