Dan Haren (9-9, 3.73/1.15/4.81) vs. Aaron Harang (5-15, 5.02/1.41/4.72)
The Cubs wrap up the series and season-series against the Phillies this afternoon behind Dan Haren. The Cubs will look to bounce back from a rough loss and win the series in Philly. The Cubs are 2-4 in the first six games of the season series after giving two of the games away. Citizens Bank Park has been a very challenging place for the Cubs to win a series. The Cubs are 15-22 in Philly since the park opened in 2004.
Joe Maddon pushed Dan Haren back a day due to weather concerns Saturday night. Haren received an unplanned extra day of rest and Maddon could really use a similar outing this afternoon to the one he put together in St. Louis.
The Cubs square off against Aaron Harang today. Look for Maddon to run out a balanced lineup with Harang on the bump. Right-handers have hit .269/.302/.440 against Harang while left-handers have managed a .288/.372/.393 line this season.
Dan Haren is coming off his best outing with the Cubs and his second win since the trade from Miami at the end of July. Haren held down a very good Cardinals’ offense for seven innings while giving up seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Haren pitched his way out of a jam in the fourth inning and went on to complete three more scoreless innings while setting a tone for the three game series in St. Louis.
Haren has pitched better with the Cubs than the numbers indicate. Haren was good his last start while the defense made the plays behind him.
Dan Haren is 2-2 in seven starts with the Cubs. Haren has allowed 21 runs, 20 earned, on 42 hits (nine home runs) with nine walks and 29 strikeouts in 37 2/3 innings.
Today is Haren’s fourth start of the season against Philly, his third at Citizens Bank. Haren is 1-1 in the first three with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.06 WHIP (nine runs on 15 hits with four walks and 13 strikeouts in 18 innings). Haren has averaged a quality start in each of his first three games against the Phillies this year. At Citizens Bank, Haren is 0-1 with a 6.75 ERA and 1.25 WHIP.

Aaron Harang has really struggled since the break and is coming off a poor outing against the Braves. The veteran right hander allowed five runs on eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts in five innings. Harang is 0-1 in his last two starts with an 8.38 ERA and 1.76 WHIP.
It has been all downhill for Harang after a sensational start to the season. Harang posted a 2.51 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in April and 1.62 ERA with a 1.03 WHIP in May. Harang was in line to get traded before he struggled in June and landed on the disabled list on July 2 with left foot plantar fasciitis.
Since the break, Harang is 1-4 in eight starts with a 7.38 ERA and 1.83 WHIP (35 runs on 59 hits with 19 walks and 23 strikeouts in 42 2/3 innings).
Aaron Harang has had a lot of success over his career against the Cubs. Harang is 12-8 in 28 starts with a 4.31 ERA and 1.27 WHIP. The Cubs missed Harang at Wrigley in July. Last season, Harang won his only start against the Cubs after he allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and nine strikeouts in six innings. Dating back to his days in Cincinnati, Harang always seems to pitch his best ball against a Cubs’ team.
