The first-ever Northwest League and Pioneer League All-Star Game is Tuesday, Aug. 4 and three Cubs’ prospects were named to Northwest League squad last week.
OF Eloy Jimenez, RHP Oscar De La Cruz and RHP Pedro Araujo will serve as reserves on the Northwest League team.
Eloy Jimenez has performed quite well in 31 games for the Eugene Emeralds. Jimenez is batting .272/.316/.384 with five doubles and three home runs for a .700 OPS. The 18-year old has dealt with a couple of injuries that has cost him playing time.
Oscar De La Cruz is 3-2 in eight starts with a 2.72 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. The 20-year old right hander has given up 16 runs, 13 earned, on 36 hits with 14 walks and 40 strikeouts in 43 innings.

Tuesday’s PBL-NWL All Star Game will take place at Avista Stadium in Spokane, Washington home of the Spokane Indians.

Last Tuesday, Arizona Fall League Director Steve Cobb announced the organization and staff assignments (managers, pitching coaches, hitting coaches and athletic trainers) for the 2015 Arizona Fall League season that begins Tuesday, October 13.
Myrtle Beach Pelicans manager Mark Johnson will manage the Mesa Solar Sox, the Arizona Fall League roster made up of players from the Chicago Cubs, Los Angeles Angels, Miami Marlins, Oakland Athletics, and Tampa Bay Rays.
Mark Johnson, in his fifth season as a manager in the Cubs minor league system and his first season in Class A-Advanced, will be leading a team in the Arizona Fall League for the first time in his career. The former big league catcher spent the last two seasons as the manager at Low-A Kane County, where he led the Cougars last season to a minor league best 91-49 record and a Midwest League championship after sweeping through the playoffs with a 7-0 record. He was named Baseball America’s Minor League Manager of the Year and Midwest League Manager of the Year for his efforts. Johnson began his managerial career in 2011 with Class A-Short Season Boise where he took the Hawks to back-to-back postseason appearances, their first playoff berths since 2006. In his four seasons as a manger, Johnson has taken his team the playoffs three times.
The Cubs will announce later in the summer which of the organization’s top prospects will participate in the Arizona Fall League. Opening Day in the AFL is Oct. 13.
