Dan Haren (8-7, 3.55/1.12/4.70) vs. Chris Sale (10-7, 3.47/1.07/2.51)
The Cubs wrap up the series and season-series with the White Sox this afternoon. The Cubs have already won the series after taking the first two games. But a win today means The Crosstown Cup will spend the year on the North Side of Chicago. The Cubs have won three of the first five games against the Sox, but in the event of a tie in the season series, the previous year’s winner retains the cup.
Dan Haren makes his third start with the Cubs this afternoon and has the tough task of keeping the White Sox off the board while his teammates deal with Chris Sale. Look for Miguel Montero behind the plate this afternoon catching Dan Haren. Even with the lefty on the hill, David Ross caught Jake Arrieta on Saturday night. Montero knows Haren and the two worked well together during his last start.
After Monday’s off day, the Cubs return to Wrigley for a seven-game homestand. But first things first, the Cubs have a chance at sweeping the Sox.
This afternoon all starts with Dan Haren …
Dan Haren makes his third start with the Cubs this afternoon. Haren is coming off a win against the Brewers in which he allowed three runs on five hits with a walk and six strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings. Haren has pitched to expectations over the first two outings and better than his numbers indicate. Haren’s teammates have to be on their toes again today. Haren is going to give up contact, the key is for the Cubs to make the plays they can behind him.
Haren is 1-0 in two starts with the Cubs with a 5.23 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 6.01 FIP. Haren will give up a home run or two today, the key is to limit them to solo shots.
Dan Haren is 3-2 in eight career starts versus the White Sox with a 4.05 ERA and 1.44 WHIP. Haren lost to the Sox last June 3 at Dodger Stadium. Haren allowed four runs on six hits with a walk, two strikeouts and two home runs in six innings. For his career, Haren is 1-1 in four starts at The Cell with a 3.80 ERA and 1.10 WHIP.

After back-to-back very unlike Chris Sale starts, the incredibly talented lefty got back on track his last time out. Sale was roughed up by the Red Sox and Rays in the two outings leading up to the start against the other team from Los Angeles.
Chris Sale is 2-3 in his last five starts with a 6.39 ERA and 1.55 WHIP.
Today is Sale’s 12th outing of the year at The Cell. Sale is 4-3 in the first 11 with a 3.22 ERA and 1.05 WHIP. And Sale dominated the Cubs back on July 11 at Wrigley.
