Jon Lester (7-8, 3.22/1.17/2.95) vs. Tyler Cravy (0-3, 5.40/1.45/4.00)
The Cubs wrap up the series with the Brewers and the seven-game homestand today behind Jon Lester. The Cubs have won six straight for the third time this year and will shoot for a season-long seven-game winning streak and an undefeated homestand with Lester on the hill.
The Cubs will not see the Brewers after today until the end of September. Six of the Cubs last 13 games of the season are against the Brewers (Sept. 21-23 at Wrigley, Oct. 2-4 at Miller Park). With Lester on the mound pitching on regular rest, it is imperative the Cubs complete the three-game sweep today.
David Ross will be behind the plate and it will be interesting to see if Joe Maddon makes any other changes to his lineup a day after a night game with rookie right-hander Tyler Cravy making the start for the Brewers.
Tyler Cravy moved into Kyle Lohse’s spot in the rotation. Cravy has made only three starts in the majors and two of those came against Cardinals.
After last night’s walk-off win, a quick start for the Cubs will keep Cravy from gaining any confidence against a Brewers’ team that will be looking to avoid its second straight series sweep to the Cubs.
Today all starts with Jon Lester …
Jon Lester makes his fourth straight start at Wrigley this afternoon. Lester is coming off an effective outing against the Giants in which he allowed two runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts in seven innings. Lester was not as sharp has he had been prior to the washout in Pittsburgh. Lester pitched on short rest and still beat the Giants without his best stuff.
In four starts since the break, Lester is 3-0 with a 1.84 ERA and 0.82 WHIP. Lester has allowed six runs on 20 hits with four walks and 30 strikeouts in 29 1/3 innings.
Jon Lester is 5-6 in 14 starts at Wrigley this year with a 3.21 ERA and 1.17 WHIP. Lester squares off against the Brewers for the second time.
Lester beat the Brewers 1-0 back on May 1. Lester allowed three hits over seven shutout innings with a walk and four strikeouts. For his career, Jon Lester is 1-2 versus the Brewers with a 2.01 ERA and 0.99 WHIP.
Brewers Career Numbers against Jon Lester

The Cubs get their first look at rookie right-hander Tyler Cravy. The Brewers recalled Cravy to take Kyle Lohse’s spot in the rotation. Cravy lasted just five innings his last time out. The Cardinals scored six runs on eight hits with two walks. Cravy struck out four in his second career outing against St. Louis.
Tyler Cravy is making just his fifth appearance and fourth start in the big leagues this afternoon. Cravy is 0-1 in two games, one start, outside of Miller Park with a 2.00 ERA and 1.11 WHIP.
In 17 starts for Triple-A Colorado Springs, Cravy was 7-7 with a 3.97 ERA and 1.29 WHIP. Cravy allowed 44 runs, 42 earned, on 92 hits with 31 walks and 75 strikeouts in 95 1/3 innings.
No one on Joe Maddon’s active roster has faced Tyler Cravy in a regular season big league ballgame.
