The Cubs announced two roster moves Sunday morning.
With the two moves, the 40-man roster stands at 39 players and the active roster consists of 14 pitchers (six starters, eight relievers) and 11 position players. Joe Maddon will have a short bench Sunday. A position player is expected to be added to the 25-man roster prior to Monday’s opener in Pittsburgh.
Clayton Richard has made three appearances, two starts, for the Cubs since he was acquired from the Pirates for cash on July 3. Richard is 1-0 with a 5.40 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 5.02 FIP in the majors. In 15 innings, Richard has allowed nine runs on 19 hits with five walks and six strikeouts. As a starter, Richard is 1-0 with a 3.75 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.
Richard made one start for Iowa after he was optioned to Triple-A. Richard did not allow a run in seven innings while giving up three hits with no walks and four strikeouts.
Taylor Teagarden played in eight games for the Cubs and provided a memorable hit against Aroldis Chapman on July 22. Teagarden knocked in Anthony Rizzo with the game winner. Teagarden had 15 plate appearances and was 3-for-15 with two RBI.
Teagarden hit .294/.375/.437 in 43 games for the I-Cubs with four doubles, a triple and four home runs for a .812 OPS.
