The Iowa Cubs announced Tuesday veteran RHP Trevor Cahill signed a minor league contract with the Cubs. Cahill was assigned to Triple-A Iowa and added to the active roster.
Trevor Cahill started the season with the Atlanta Braves after being traded from Arizona to Atlanta on April 2. Cahill was 0-3 in 15 games, three starts, with a 7.52 ERA, 1.78 WHIP and 4.40 FIP. Cahill allowed 23 runs, 22 earned, on 36 hits with 11 walks and 14 strikeouts in 26 1/3 innings. Cahill was released by the Braves on June 19.
Cahill signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers on July 2. Cahill started six games for Triple-A Oklahoma City and was 1-3 with a 6.28 ERA and 1.61 WHIP. Cahill gave up 22 runs, 20 earned, on 32 hits with 14 walks and 17 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings.
Trevor Cahill pitched in eight games and made seven starts over three levels in the Dodgers system before opting out of his contract with Los Angeles on Aug. 14.
Trevor Cahill is only 27 years old but he has not had close to the success he had with the Athletics in 2010. Cahill had three solid seasons with Oakland before he was dealt to Arizona along with Craig Breslow in December 2011 for Ryan Cook, Collin Cowgill and Jarrod Parker.
Trevor Cahill is 64-72 in 201 career games, 173 starts, in the big leagues with a 4.16 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 4.28 FIP.
