Dallas Beeler (0-0, 6.43/2.00/3.07) vs. Yohan Flande (0-1, 4.24/1.29/3.36)

The Cubs look to make it two in a row over the Rockies tonight behind Dallas Beeler. And the Rockies will have a different shortstop in the starting lineup. Troy Tulowitzki was traded to the Blue Jays along with RHP LaTroy Hawkins during Monday’s game for SS Jose Reyes, RHP Jeff Hoffman, RHP Miguel Castro and RHP Jesus Tinoco. The Rockies vets are not happy about the way the trade for Tulowitzki went down and it will be interesting to see how the players respond tonight.

Dallas Beeler will be officially added to the roster at some point prior to warm-ups. The Cubs will have to send out a pitcher to make room on the 25-man for Beeler. The likely candidate to be optioned out is Yoervis Medina.

PrintThe Cubs will see another lefty tonight in Yohan Flande. Joe Maddon started Kyle Schwarber against a southpaw Monday. Will Schwarber get another shot at a left-handed starter or will David Ross be behind the plate?

The Cubs defense must be on their toes tonight and help out their starting pitcher by not giving the high-flying Rockies any extra outs.

Tonight all starts with Dallas Beeler …

Dallas Beeler was called up to make the start in the second game of the twin bill last Wednesday in Cincinnati. Beeler struggled, received no help from his defense and could not get out of the second inning without giving up five runs. Joe Maddon saw a way to get back in the game in the top of the third and had Kris Bryant hit for Beeler. The gamble paid off for the Cubs because Bryant tied the game with a two-run single.

Dallas Beeler’s outing changed on a Starlin Castro error but his decisions and lack of command did help his own cause. Beeler needs a good outing tonight.

Beeler makes his third start of the year in the majors today, only the fifth of his career. For the first time, Beeler will get a third start in the big leagues in the same season … maybe the third time will be the charm.

Dallas Beeler makes his first start against the Rockies tonight in what is the third career start at Wrigley Field. Beeler is 0-1 in two starts at Wrigley with a 1.64 ERA and 1.18 WHIP.

No one on the Rockies’ active roster has faced Dallas Beeler in a regular season big league ballgame.

Yohan Flande is making his first start in the big leagues tonight. Flande has been used as a reliever in seven games in the majors. In six starts at Triple-A Albuquerque this year, Flande is 3-3 with a 7.11 ERA and 1.96 WHIP.

Yohan Flande is making his fourth appearance and third career start against the Cubs. Flande is 0-2 in three games, two starts, with a 3.77 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. Flande faced the Cubs at Wrigley twice last year, once as a starter and once as a reliever on July 31 due to the John Baker Game that wiped out both bullpens in the game that started on July 29 and ended in the early morning hours of July 30.

Cubs Career Numbers against Yohan Flande

  • Starlin Castro: 2-for-6 with one double, one home run and one walk
  • Chris Coghlan: 0-for-6 with one walk
  • Anthony Rizzo: 0-for-4
