Kyle Hendricks (3-4, 4.15/1.18/3.54) vs. Mat Latos (3-5, 5.27/1.41/3.63)
Joe Maddon hands the ball to Kyle Hendricks this afternoon in the series and season series finale with the Marlins. Maddon is looking for Meat Loaf and for his team to take two of three from Miami this weekend … and end up splitting the six games with the Fish. With a very difficult week ahead of them, the Cubs must take care of business today.
Kyle Hendricks is looking to build off his outing in New York. Hendricks appeared to find the confidence he had lost against the Twins and Dodgers. And Joe Maddon could really use a good outing from Hendricks while his offense attempts to figure out Mat Latos.
The Cubs offense is stuck in neutral right now and will hopefully benefit from the return of Jorge Soler. The Cubs are expected to activate Soler prior to Sunday’s game. Soler has been out for a month and his absence has been felt. Soler will help lengthen a lineup that is in need of another power bat.
This afternoon all starts with Kyle Hendricks …
Kyle Hendricks bounced back nicely the last time out after two subpar starts. Hendricks tossed six innings of shutout ball against the Mets. Hendricks allowed only three hits and a walk while striking out two. After consecutive games against the Twins and Dodgers that appeared to really affect Hendricks, it was good to see him find a rhythm early and settle in against the Mets.
Hendricks is 3-2 in his last six starts with a 4.78 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. And at home this season, Hendricks is 0-2 in six starts with a 4.01 ERA and 1.04 WHIP.
Kyle Hendricks gets another shot at the Fish today. Hendricks struggled against the Marlins in Miami and gave up four runs on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Hendricks better have a different game plan today.
Kyle Hendricks makes his second career start against the Marlins today.

Mat Latos has really enjoyed pitching against the Cubs over the course of his career. Latos has settled in over the last month after a rough start to his Marlins’ career. And the Cubs are catching him at the wrong time.
Latos held the Giants to three runs, two earned, on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts over six innings his last time out. Latos is 2-1 in his last four starts with a 3.86 ERA and 1.09 WHIP.
