Hunter073115According to multiple reports, the Cubs acquired RHP Tommy Hunter prior to the deadline from the Orioles for OF Junior Lake.

The Cubs have not announced the deal but are expected to Thursday afternoon.

RHP Tommy Hunter is a free agent at the end of the season and is having a good year for the Orioles. Hunter is 2-2 with a 3.63 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 3.32 FIP. In 44 2/3 innings, Hunter has allowed 19 runs, 18 earned, on 41 hits with 11 walks and 32 strikeouts in 44 2/3 innings.

On the road the last two years, Tommy Hunter has a 1.85 ERA with 7.8 K per 9 innings.

OF Junior Lake played in 21 games for the Cubs this season. The 25-year old outfielder batted .224/.274/.345 with four doubles and a home run for a .619 OPS. Lake showed signs in the spring of becoming a more complete player but he was not able to make those same adjustments once the season started.

PrintJunior Lake hit .315/.404/.472 in 58 games for Triple-A Iowa this season with 10 doubles and seven home runs for a .876 OPS.

Tommy Hunter will take Junior Lake’s spot on the 40-man roster. Roster moves will have to be made to add RHP Dan Haren to the 40-man roster and both Haren and Hunter to the 25-man roster.
