The Cubs announced two roster moves just prior to Tuesday night’s game in Miami.
The Cubs recalled OF Matt Szczur from Triple-A Iowa and optioned OF/INF Mike Baxter to Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs active roster currently consists of 13 pitchers (five starters and eight relievers) and 12 position players.

The 25-year-old Szczur joins the Cubs for the third time this season, as he was a member of the team’s Opening Day roster and rejoined the Cubs from May 6-15. He is batting .172/.242/.355 (5-for-29) with two doubles and five RBI in 18 games with the Cubs this season. With Iowa, Szczur has batted .330/.378/545 (29-for-88) with three doubles, two triples, four home runs and 14 RBI in 24 games this season. He joins the Cubs riding a seven-game hitting streak with Iowa, during which he has hit .379 (11-for-29) with two homers and six RBI.
Szczur made his major league debut with the Cubs last August and batted .226 (14-for-62) with two doubles, two home runs and five RBI in 33 games. He has played 21 games in left field, 10 games in center field and 13 games in right field during his big league career. Overall, Szczur has batted .209 (19-for-91) with four doubles, two home runs and 10 RBI in 51 career major league games.
Mike Baxter, 30, is 1-for-9 (.111) in 10 games with the Cubs this season. He is batting .290/.377/.330 (29-for-100) with four doubles, eight RBI and a .377 on-base percentage in 34 games with Iowa this year.
