The rosters for the upcoming Futures Game during All-Star weekend in Cincinnati were released Thursday. And the Cubs will be represented by two of their top prospects, C Kyle Schwarber and RHP Carl Edwards Jr.
Schwarber will have a chance to play in front of family and friends during the prestigious event.

It was a very good end of the week for the affiliates as many of them returned from the All-Star break. Mike Olt and Kyle Schwarber helped Iowa win games. South Bend started the second half on the right foot and Double-A Tennessee began a winning streak.

Ryne Sandberg did not get what he bargained for in Philly and removed himself from the situation before he was let go at the end of the season.
Cubs Give Another Game to the Cardinals – Cardinals 3, Cubs 2
Jake Arrieta did his job and limited the best team in all of the land to one run in seven innings. The offense left too many opportunities on base and Pedro Strop served up the first career home run to a pinch-hitter that tied the game.
It took 10 innings for the Cubs to lose the first game of the series.
Fourth of July Weekend to Feature Fireworks at Wrigley Field

From the Wire: Cubs Select Contract of RHP Donn Roach, Option RHP Yoervis Medina to Iowa and DFA C Rafael Lopez
The first of many roster moves on the weekend for the Cubs … RHP Donn Roach was added to the 40-man roster so he could start Saturday. The Cubs optioned out RHP Yoervis Medina. And Chris Bosio did not want to see Medina sent down to Iowa. The Cubs’ pitching coach liked the progress Medina was making in his time with the big league team.
The Cubs designated C Rafael Lopez for assignment. Lopez should pass through and end up back in Iowa.

Neil Ramirez’s return is more than welcome, another power arm for the back of the bullpen. The Cubs had to place LHP Tsuyoshi Wada on the DL and is not sure who will start Saturday against the Marlins, the next time a fifth starter will be needed.

Two rain delays later the Cubs wrapped up the three-game series at Busch Stadium with a loss against the Cardinals. The Cubs could not get anything going offensively while the Cardinals hit double after double after double against Jason Hammel.
As Joe Maddon said before the weekend, in order to be the best you have to beat the best. Right now, the Cubs are well behind the Cardinals in more than just the standings.
