Two more prospects in the Cubs’ system won Player of the Week awards on Monday.
OF/1B Yasiel Balaguert was named Midwest League Player of the Week (May 25-31) and OF Kevin Brown received the Player of the Week award for the Carolina League (May 25-31).
Yasiel Balaguert and Kevin Brown join C/1B Cael Brockmeyer (Midwest League: April 9-19), 1B Dan Vogelbach (Carolina League: April 9-19, April 20-26), RHP Tyler Skulina (Carolina League: April 27-May 3) and OF Billy McKinney (May 4-10) as the prospects in the organization that have won Player of the Week awards for their respective leagues this season.
OF/1B Yasiel Balaguert
Yasiel Balaguert, 22, had 13 hits in 20 plate appearances last week that included two doubles and three home runs. Balaguert scored six runs and collected five RBI.
Balaguert is batting .291/.331/.480 with eight doubles, two triples and four home runs for a .881 OPS in 34 games for Low-A South Bend. The 22-year old used a very good week to put his season back on track.
Yasiel Balaguert hit .252/.291/.366 in 93 games for Low-A Kane County last season with 17 doubles, two triples and seven home runs.

OF Kevin Brown
Kevin Brown, 24, led the Carolina League with a .429 batting average (9-for-21), slugging percentage (.810) and OPS (1.310). Brown was second in the league with a .500 on-base percentage, tied for second with the most hits and third in RBI (5). Four of his nine hits went for extra bases … a double, two triples and a home run.
In 22 games for High-A Myrtle Beach this season, Brown is batting .260/.326/.390 with three doubles, two triples, eight walks, eight strikeouts and a home run for a .715 OPS.
Brown has played seven games for Triple-A Iowa this season. Brown was 4-for-11 with two doubles (.364/.417/.545) in limited time at the highest level of minor league baseball.
For the season, the lefty hitting outfielder is hitting .273/.337/.409 with five doubles, a triple and a home run with nine walks and 11 strikeouts for a .746 OPS.
The Cubs selected Kevin Brown in the 22nd round of the 2013 draft.
