Ricketts Family Purchases Three Additional Rooftop Buildings

May 22, 2015 11:00 am By Neil 4 Comments

According to a report from the Tribune, citing Cook County property records as its source, the Ricketts family bought three more rooftop buildings.

The Ricketts family, under Greystone Sheffield Holdings, purchased the buildings and the rooftop club businesses for an undisclosed amount. The family bought the properties located at 3637 N. Sheffield, 3617 N. Sheffield and 3619 N. Sheffield. The sale of properties closed last week and The Ricketts family assumed no debt in the purchases according to the Tribune.

Greystone Sheffield Holdings is owned by the Ricketts family and run by Cubs President of Business Operations Crane Kenney according to Danny Ecker.

The Ricketts family owns six of the 16 rooftop properties and is close to acquiring a seventh building, Down the Line Rooftop.

In addition to the recently purchased buildings at 3637 N. Sheffield, 3617 N. Sheffield and 3619 N. Sheffield, the Ricketts family also owns the buildings located at 3639 N. Sheffield, 3643-3645 N. Waveland and 1032-1034 W. Waveland Avenue.

PrintAccording to the Tribune, “just three rooftop businesses on Sheffield aren’t owned by the Rickettses: Murphy’s Rooftop at the corner of Waveland and Sheffield and above Murphy’s Bleachers; and Skybox on Sheffield and Lakeview Baseball Club, which have sued the team in federal court. That suit is pending.”

The Ricketts family purchased the three buildings from Sheffield Finance, owned by Jerry Lasky and Murray Peretz. Lasky told the Tribune he approached the Cubs about buying the buildings a couple of weeks ago. Lasky said that Tom Ricketts and Crane Kenney “were a pleasure to deal with.”

Crain’s Chicago Business and the Tribune published the statement from Julian Green on the purchase of the three buildings: “The Ricketts family has said in the past they are interested in reasonable opportunities to purchase rooftop property and are willing to pay a fair price. In this case, they were able to acquire three buildings. The rooftop situation has been a political and legal morass for more than a decade and the Ricketts family will remain interested in opportunities which make sound business sense.”
