According to multiple reports, Kris Bryant has been called up and will make his Major League debut on Friday against the Padres at Wrigley Field.
The Cubs are expected to place Mike Olt on the disabled list Friday with a broken wrist. An MRI showed Olt has a hairline fracture in his right wrist. Olt is expected to be in a cast for three weeks. With Tommy La Stella and Mike Olt on the DL, the Cubs decided to have Bryant make his debut at Wrigley Field.
Kris Bryant played in the first game of the twin bill in New Orleans on Thursday night. Game two was postponed due to rain. Bryant went 1-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Bryant would have hit two longballs Thursday but former Cubs’ outfielder Cole Gillespie robbed him of a homer to right before his moonshot to left in the sixth inning … is last at bat at the Triple-A level.
Kris Bryant went 9-for-28 with a double and three home runs with 10 RBI in seven games for the Iowa Cubs this season.
In the 76 games at the Triple-A level prior to Thursday’s game, Kris Bryant batted .291/.414/.619 with 15 doubles, one triple, 23 home runs and a 1.034 OPS.
In 138 games between Tennessee and Iowa last season, Kris Bryant finished the year with a .325/.438/.661 slash line that included 34 doubles, one triple and 43 home runs with 110 RBI for a 1.098 OPS.
Kris Bryant led the minor leagues in home runs (43), extra basehits (78), total bases (324), slugging percentage (.661) and OPS (1.098).
The Cubs have not announced Bryant will join the team on Friday. Kris Bryant will have to be added to the 40-man roster, which currently stands at 39 players, before Friday’s game.
