After more than a four hour delay, the Cubs and Reds game scheduled for Saturday afternoon was postponed due to rain. A make-up date has not been announced.
Saturday was the tenth time a game has been cancelled at Great American Ball Park, three of the 10 have been against the Cubs.
Officially the Reds took four hours and 13 minutes to call Saturday’s game.
During his pre-game talk with the beat writers, Joe Maddon said he would not make any changes to the rotation. Each starter would be pushed back a day.
Jake Arrieta will take the hill in Sunday’s finale against the Reds, likely against Anthony DeSclafani. Arrieta did not begin his pre-game routine Saturday.
Travis Wood would get the ball for the opener of the three-game series against the Pirates on Monday at Wrigley. Jason Hammel and Kyle Hendricks would be in line to start Tuesday and Wednesday.
Unless Joe Maddon changes the Cubs’ rotation, which is very unlikely, the pitching match-ups for the Cubs-Pirates series at Wrigley will be:
• Monday: Travis Wood vs. Vance Worley
• Tuesday: Jason Hammel vs. Jeff Locke
• Wednesday: Kyle Hendricks vs. Gerrit Cole
Saturday’s game against the Reds is the second postponement of the season for the Cubs. The Cubs cancelled the second game of the year against the Cardinals due to weather and freezing temperatures.
The Cubs have two games to make-up later in the season against the division rivals.
