Spring Training Game Twenty-Two: Cubs (9-11-1) vs. Athletics (13-9-1)

The Cubs return to the field today for two games, one in the Cactus League and a B-Game at Sloan Park against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Kyle Hendricks is starting the B-Game and Edwin Jackson faces the Athletics.
The Cubs make the short trip to HoHoKam Park and play their first game back at their old Spring Training home. The A’s moved into a refurbished HoHoKam and Fitch Park this year.
Today is the fourth and final meeting of the spring between the Cubs and A’s in the Cactus League. The two teams played to a tie on March 5, the Cubs swept the two-game series in Las Vegas.
Starlin Castro is expected to be back in the starting lineup this afternoon on his 25th birthday. And Kris Bryant is supposed to play in one of today’s games.

Today all starts with Edwin Jackson …
Edwin Jackson takes the hill this afternoon for his fourth start of the spring. Jackson was better than his line indicates in his last outing. Jackson threw strikes with good movement and location. Jackson allowed three runs, one earned, on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts in four innings to the Diamondbacks.
Jackson has shown improvement each time out and he was really good against one his former teams.
In three Cactus League starts, Edwin Jackson has allowed seven runs, one earned, on nine hits with three walks and six strikeouts in nine innings.
The Cubs get their second look of the spring at Drew Pomeranz this afternoon. Jake Arrieta and half of the Cubs spring roster faced Pomeranz in Las Vegas on March 13. The Cubs scored two runs, one earned, on three hits with a walk in three innings. And Pomeranz struck out six batters in the opener of the ‘Big League Weekend’ at Cashman Field.
Pomeranz is coming off a four inning outing against the Mariners. Pomeranz allowed one run on four this with a walk and five strikeouts.
This spring, Pomeranz has allowed three runs, two earned, on nine hits with three walks and 15 strikeouts in nine innings (three starts).
Barry Zito is scheduled to follow Pomeranz today. Zito has pitched well this spring and is reportedly close to making the team.
