The Cubs have two events for charity scheduled for this weekend at Sloan Park. The Cubs play the Mariners on Saturday (March 21) with Jon Lester expected to face Felix Hernandez and Jason Hammel is slated to start Sunday’s game (March 22) against the Padres.
According to Carrie Muskat, the Cubs wives are hosting their annual garage sale and mystery ball even on Saturday. All proceeds will benefit Paz De Cristo in Mesa.
Before Sunday’s game against the Padres, Joe Maddon will host ‘Respect Bald’ where the Cubs skipper and several of the players will have their heads shaved to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer. When Maddon made the announcement the event would take place Sunday, he tweeted, “We have great hair on this team and great hearts, which is why we are shaving our heads for pediatric cancer research 3/22 #LetsGive.”
Joe Maddon and participating players will have their heads shaved at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Field 1 at Sloan Park. A select number of fans can participate in the morning event by donating $100 to get their heads shaved alongside Cubs players and receive a T-shirt. All fans are invited to watch.
The Respect Bald event will continue during Sunday’s Cubs vs. Padres game at Sloan Park. Fans can participate from approximately 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. inside the right field gate near the Cubs Store and outside the gates near the Cubs Store for fans who would like to participate but do not have game tickets. For $50, fans will receive a head shave, a T-shirt and a great feeling knowing they have helped support children with cancer.
