The Cubs announced Saturday the team picked up the $1 million option on RHP Jacob Turner for the 2015 as expected.
The Cubs claimed Jacob Turner off waivers from the Marlins in early August and worked out a deal that sent RHP Jose Arias and RHP Tyler Bremer to Miami for the former first round pick of the Tigers (2009).
Jacob Turner had mixed results in his limited time with the Cubs but showed the stuff that made him a first round pick.
Jacob Turner appeared in eight games, six starts, and allowed 27 runs, 25 earned on 42 hits with 10 walks and 17 strikeouts in 34 2/3 innings. With the Cubs, Turner posted a 6.49 ERA, a 1.50 WHIP and a 4.52 FIP.
The 23-year old has struggled with his command during his big league career and has not pitched to expectations. Toward the end of the season, Chris Bosio said he thought Turner had shown improvement and there were a lot of positives to work with moving forward.
Turner started and was the winning pitcher on the last day of the 2014 season.
The Cubs have until Monday to decide whether or not they will pick-up the $5 million club option on LHP Tsuyoshi Wada.
